A cut through the crust
Cutting through the crust, is a set of images documenting the various mines located near State College, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania holds some of the densest mineral and fuel deposits in the country, as its the 12th largest for non-fuel mineral and the 3rd largest for coal. Pictured is an open pit mine in PA, these mines transform lands into wastelands, leading to water contamination for generations to come. My goal is to draw attention to these sites and make sure no contamination has occurred in the past, present or future. This is just an initial look at potentially more works to come. Further work could include the taking and testing of water runoff from these sites, along with having a website for community members to submit potential contamination concerns and building awareness of the potential issues that come with having mines in one backyard.
